Feadship
Founded in the Netherlands in 1849, Feadship stands as a titan in the custom superyacht industry, maintaining its reputation through a relentless pursuit of perfection. The acronym for the First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders, Feadship was established in 1949 as a marketing venture between six Dutch shipyards and De Voogt Naval Architects, aimed at breaking into the U.S. market. Over the years, the enterprise has evolved into a global giant, currently operated by De Vries and Van Lent shipyards along with De Voogt Naval Architects. Owned by the De Vries Group and luxury brand LVMH, these shipyards are leaders in maritime craftsmanship, each with a century-long legacy. Feadship has continued to grow since its inception, elevating the Netherlands into a world-class hub for yacht construction.
Styling itself as the epitome of Dutch craftsmanship and innovative design, Feadship specializes in fully custom luxury motor yachts ranging between 50 to 100+ meters. Every vessel is a work of art, exuding an inherent quality that has been refined through generations of unparalleled craftsmanship. Feadship’s design philosophy marries traditional maritime values with cutting-edge technology to maximize comfort and functionality. Beyond the visible luxury, there is an intangible commitment, experience, and integrity in every Feadship that comes from the people who build them. Each craftsman knows their work affects not just the boat but also the owner’s experience, making the shipyard’s human element just as important as the materials used.
In terms of notable projects, Feadship’s portfolio is a star-studded array of revolutionary yachts that have frequently captured headlines. The 85-meter Ecstasea, delivered in 2004, set new standards in turbine-powered luxury. Anna, at 110.50 meters, remains the largest yacht ever constructed by any Dutch shipyard, boasting exterior styling and interior layout by Michael Leach Design. Feadship has also led groundbreaking research in glass engineering, as exemplified by the 78.2-meter Venus, a project with Apple’s late founder Steve Jobs and designer Philippe Stark. Its first hybrid yacht, Savannah, won accolades for its diesel-electric power system. Symphony, built for the head of LVMH, is the largest Feadship to date in terms of gross tonnage. All of these exceptional projects are testimony to Feadship’s unparalleled position in the world of custom superyachts, reinforcing its reputation as a yard where dreams are transformed into nautical reality.
