Tankoa
Tankoa Yachts, established in 2007, distinguishes itself as a “boutique shipyard” in the Italian yacht-making industry. Founded by industrialist Guido Orsi, along with veterans Michel Karsenti and Renzo Chelazzi, the Genoa-based shipyard specializes in the construction of luxury megayachts, ranging from 45 meters to 100 meters in length. Once hit by the global financial crisis, the company emerged stronger and more refined, delivering its inaugural yacht, the 69-metre Suerte, at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show. Vincent Poerio, a former Benetti executive, took the helm as CEO in 2020, underlining Tankoa’s intent to compete at the highest level of yacht craftsmanship. Their strategic acquisition of the 76-year-old Cantieri di Pisa shipyard in 2021 further strengthens their foothold in the industry.
Tankoa is lauded for its multidimensional approach to yacht construction that emphasizes customization, technological innovation, and meticulous attention to detail. Their design philosophy embodies a blend of Italian elegance and flexibility, German business ethics, Dutch quality engineering, and Japanese precision. Architect Francesco Paszkowski is a key design partner, and together they have created an array of yachts that are not only visually stunning but also pioneers in maritime technology. From flexible engineering platforms to freedom in interiors and layouts, Tankoa offers both semi-custom and fully custom options to meet the distinct desires and lifestyle of each client. Their after-sale service further exemplifies a commitment to excellence, striving to be a lifelong partner in their clients’ sea-bound journeys.
The shipyard has been responsible for a number of high-profile and award-winning projects, establishing its credibility and prowess in the industry. The Suerte was a game-changer, enjoying an unprecedented four-month charter before being bought by the charter client. It was also a finalist in the 2016 ShowBoats Design Awards. Their 50-metre, sub-500GT project named Vertige set the standard for the yard’s successful all-aluminium series, with successors like Bintador and Olokun gaining acclaim for their hybrid diesel-electric power and innovative designs. The yard’s 72-metre Solo, unveiled in 2018, not only met Tier III NOx emissions standards but was also a winner at the 2019 Boat International Design & Innovation Awards. With these flagship projects and an ever-growing portfolio, Tankoa Yachts has etched its name in the annals of yachting excellence, confirming that, in the world of superyachts, they are indeed “thinking big.”
